Ingredients

  • 500 grams minced meat ( a mixture of beef and lamb is preferred)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped or grated)
  • A bunch of fresh parsley ( finely chopped)
  • Pinch of cumin
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 whole egg
  • 2 slices of stale bread (without crust)

Turkish Meatballs Recipe

  1. Soak slices of bread in water until they sop.
  2. Squeeze out the excess water and crumble them.
  3. Put minced meat in a large bowl.
  4. Add bread crumbles, egg, garlic, cumin, salt, black pepper, parsley, onion.
  5. Knead all the ingredients well until all sticks together and solid.
  6. When the meat mixture is well, scoop up small balls, roll them in your hand and shape them.
  7. The shape of the meatballs will resemble to your thumb or small balls.
  8. Heat butter in a skillet.
  9. Fry the meatballs until they are nicely done and brown.

  1. If you don’t have stale bread, you can use dry bread crumbs.
  2. If the meat sticks to your hands, use a bit of water and then keep kneading.
  3. Butter works better with meat. But you should not opt for margarine if you don’t like butter.

You may serve Turkish Meatballs with yogurt, chilly sauce, raw onions, tomatoes as well as with Turkish style rice. Pickles and french fries may also be preferred.
