Turkish Rice Recipe

Turkish rice is called “Pilav” You nearly can not think of any meal without rice. Turkish rice is I think the most preferred side dish and it is prepared differently than the rice recipe around the world.

Europeans or Asians or any other nation boils rice but Turkish people sizzle it first. There are some tips for sure. Let’s move on with the delicious Turkish rice recipe.

Turkish Rice Recipe – “Pilav”

(For 2)

  • 1 glass of rice (250 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (not margarine please)
  • Hot water but preferably chicken stock (If you don’t have chicken stock you can use 1 tablespoon of chicken bouillon powder)
  • 2 teaspoons salt

Turkish Rice Recipe

You can prepare Turkish rice recipe in 2 different ways. By steeping the rice in hot salty water for 30 minutes – 1 hour or cooking without steeping in. Let me tell you that if you have time, please keep the rice in water for 30 minutes. You will not regret that 🙂

Turkish Rice Recipe I

1. Steep the rice in hot salty water for 30 minutes.
2. Melt the butter in a broad and shallow nonstick saucepan.
3. Drain the rice and put in saucepan.
4. Add 1 spoon of chicken powder.(If you will not use chicken stock)
5. Sizzle for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
6. Add 1 glass hot water/chicken stock.
7. Cover the saucepan and cook until the rice has absorbed all the water on medium heat. (10-15 minutes)
8. Take the pan off the heat. Remove the lid. Place a kitchen towel on the saucepan and let it brew for 15 minutes.
9. Serve hot.

Turkish Rice Recipe II

1. Melt the butter in a broad and shallow nonstick saucepan.
2. Rinse the rice but don’t steep in.
3. When the butter turns brown, add rice.
4. Sizzle for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally.
5. Add 1 spoon chicken powder. (If you will not use chicken stock)
6. Add 2 glass of hot water/chicken stock.
7. Cover the saucepan and cook until the rice has absorbed all the water on medium heat. (10-15 minutes)
8. Take the pan off the heat. Remove the lid. Place a kitchen towel on the saucepan and let it brew for 15 minutes.
9. Serve hot.
